A Lemon Lily - Week by Week Slideshow
From IdyllwildThings.com by Avianna Jones
Last fall, the Lemon Lily Festival folks planted lots of bulbs along the creeks as part of the restoration effort. This bulb was planted along Lily Creek at the Nature Center.

It was great to see it break ground this Spring! I know it likes it here!
I’ll take its picture each week and watch it grow.
UPDATE JULY 1: Decided to follow another Lemon Lily growing across Lily Creek who will bloom for sure! Wonder when ....

Welcome to Idyllwild’s 2nd Annual Lemon Lily Festival.
Idyllwild’s first Lemon Lily Festival in 2010 was huge success, accomplishing our three goals: celebration, education and restoration of our precious native wildflower, the Lemon Lily (Lilium parryi).
All of Idyllwild turned out to celebrate our Lemon Lily and to welcome the thousands of visitors who made the trip to Idyllwild to join us. Local community groups planned and produced many events. Hundreds of Idyllwild residents became Lemon Lily experts and volunteered as Lemon Lily Ambassadors throughout the weekend.
The Festival Steering Committee has been hard at work making sure that this year's Festival will be even better. We now know so much more about the Lemon Lily. We have surveyed more areas of the mountain, grown Lemon Lilies in our greenhouse at the Nature Center, and watched the bulbs and seeds planted last October coming to life, just as we hoped.
This year’s three days of celebration, July 15, 16 and 17, are designed to focus on the plight of the Lemon Lily so that locals and visitors will take it upon themselves to be their guardians. Pioneer Town at Town Hall takes you back to Idyllwild 100 years ago when the Lemon Lilies proliferated, helping to focus attention on the need for conservation and restoration of this precious wildflower to its original historical range. The Idyllwild Nature Center will provide activities that focus on the natural environment in which the Lemon Lily flourishes. This includes seminars on the Lemon Lily, riparian nature walks to see where this native wildflower lives along Lily Creek, art and crafts focused on the beauty of the lily, and children's carnival games with a Lemon Lily theme.
Last year’s activities were such a big hit that we’ve extended them to two full days at Town Hall. Throughout Idyllwild there will be music, art, food, and fun! Nowhere else in Riverside County will a family have so much fun that weekend. Free shuttles will carry you to all Festival venues. Young and old will gain a better appreciation of the importance of protecting our Mountain.
As you enjoy the Lemon Lily Festival please remember that our work -- we are all volunteers -- is all about protecting and preserving our Lemon Lily. Through education, celebration and restoration we strive to be a model of community involvement and action. Help support our work through involvement and a financial gift (through the non-profit 501c3 corporation, Friends of the San Jacinto Mountain County Parks).
While you are enjoying the Festival, please find a Lemon Lily ambassador and thank them for their good work. And we thank you for yours!
Have a wonderful, fun-packed and educational weekend!
